7 v 7 Soccer Rules & Regulations

Team Captains/Team Managers: 

 

  • Captains/Managers are to encourage players of all teams to show good sportsmanship and follow the rules stated below. If a team is questioning a call, the team captain should be the only person who talks with the referees or TBKBSC Staff. 
  • Team rosters should be entered into your team's registration online two days prior to the first game. To add additional players after your first game, you must e-mail their information to Leagues@tbkbanksportscomplex.com at least 2 hours before game time.  

 

Waivers: 

All players must have TBK Bank Sports Complex and Code of Conduct Wavier. Players that do not have waivers will not be allowed to play in any TBK Bank Sports Complex Leagues or tournaments until both waivers are submitted to TBK Bank Sports Complex staff.

Players:  

Players must follow all TBK Bank Sports Complex Soccer rules and abide by TBK Bank Sports Complex Code of Conduct. Players ejected for violating the spirit of the game will be required to leave the premises and will not be allowed to return to the competition. Players can play for more than one team if they are on each team’s roster and eligible for each league. (ex- age, grade, ability).  

 

Adult Leagues- (Co-Ed, Men’s, and Women’s) All players must be over the age of 18 years old and out of high school. Players may be required to provide proof of age, if in question.  

 

High School Leagues- All players must be in High School. No 8th graders or post grads allowed. Players may be required to provide proof of age if in question.  

 

High School Leagues will have two brackets: For grade 9th-12th grade.

Gold Bracket– Varsity-Level Players  

Silver Bracket – JV-Level Players  

  

U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15 (Still in 8th Grade, if they are a U15 and in high school, they must play in a high school league.) Leagues- All players must be in the appropriate age bracket. 

 

Apparel:  

  • All players should wear matching-colored jerseys or T-shirts for each game. Players should bring both a light and a dark color. If a team member does not have an alternate-colored jersey, the player would be required to wear a pinny.  Playing without a shirt is not allowed. 
  • Goalies must be in a different color than the field players on both teams.  
  • Athletic shoes and age-appropriate approved shin guards must always be worn on the field of play. 
  • Jewelry of any kind (including but not limited to watches, bracelets, bands, rings, chains, and earrings, node piercing) may not be worn on the field. (Taping Jewlery in prohibited)

  • The only jewelry permitted is for medical or religious reasons.  
  • Players not in compliance with these policies must leave the field immediately and will not be allowed to return until the violation is corrected (a substitution of the player in violation is permitted).  

 

No metal spikes or cleats can be worn on any TBK Banks Sports Complex fields. 

 

Game Rules:  

  • The home team will select either kick-off or field side awarded
  • All 9v9 games (High School Leagues) will play with an offside rule. 
  • All 7v7 games (U9, U10, U11) will play without an off-side rule. 
  • All 6v6 (U12, U13 and U14/U15 and Adult leagues)
  • All games will run for 40 minutes.  
  • A continuous clock is maintained for all games. No time-outs may be called by teams. Time shall not be stopped for cautions, after goals, or for injuries (unless a serious injury occurs, at the sole discretion of the referee). Note: the referee may add time to compensate for any deliberate attempts to delay the game only (cards may result also). 
  • Players in 11U and below may not head the ball. Use of the head is allowed in all other divisions. 
  • Coaches or team captions should sign the score card, once the score card is turned in it’s fine. 
  • No sliding tackling, sliding and tackling could result in a card and ejection of game.
  • If a player does not have shin guards they will not be allowed to play. 

Game format:  

 Adult 6v6- 40-minute games, with running clock. 

 Adult Leagues- (Co-Ed, Men’s, and Women’s) All players must be over 18 years of age/out of high school. Players may be required to provide proof of age if in question. Adult Co-Ed League must have 3 females when playing 6 on the fields. There must be at least 2 female players when the minimum of 5 players on the field is met; If a game results in a tie the game will remain a tie, there is no overtime.

High School: 9V9, 40-minute games with no half time. 

 

Games will have a 5-minute grace period at the start of each game. If a team does not have 6 players by the end of the grace period, the team will have to forfeit. The home team will select either kick-off or field side. If a game results in a tie the game will remain a tie, there is no overtime.  

 

The minimum number of players on the field is 6 before a match is suspended due to ejections, injuries, etc. 

 

Game format for U9, U10, U11, U12 U13, U14 and U15 (Still in 8th grade): 7v7, 40-minute games with no half time, unless otherwise determined before game time. 

 

Games will have a 5-minute grace period at the start of each game. If a team does not have 5 players by the end of the grace period, the team will have to forfeit. Players in U11 and below must retreat to the fall-back line (level with the edge of the center circle in the defender’s half) for all goal kicks and pass-outs from the goalkeeper in possession of the ball.

Teams are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their game’s scheduled start time to warm up.  

 

 The Playing Field:  

 

9v9 Field Size- 70-80 yards length by 45-55 yards in wide. Penalty Box- 36 yards wide by 14 yards length. Goal Box- 12 yards length by 5 yards.  

 

7v7 Field Size- 55-65 yards length by 35-45 yards in wide. Penalty Box- 24 yards wide by 12 yards length.  

 

6v6 Field Size- 55-65 yards length by 35-45 yards in wide. Penalty Box- 24 yards wide by 12 yards length. 

 

Ball Size: 

 Both teams participating in any game must provide one game ball per game.  

 

Adult, High School, U13, U14 and U15 games will use size 5 ball.  

 

U9, U10, U11, U12 games will use size 4 ball.  

 

Referees:  

 

One or two referees will be assigned to each game. Ground rules will be discussed with participants prior to the start of the competition. All decisions of the refs are final. Refs can eject players if they see fit. Refs will base ejections on the rules set forth in the TBK Bank Sports Complex Rules and Code of Conduct. Refs will keep score of the game and will submit scores to TBK Bank Sports Complex sports staff. Refs have the authority to issue both yellow and red cards to players, coaches/team managers/team officials, and spectators.  

 

Fouls and Misconducts: 

 

  • Standard FIFA rules for fouls and misconducts will be followed, including basis for cautions or ejections by any player, coach/manager/team official, or spectator. 
  • All free kicks will be indirect outside of the penalty area. Penalties are direct only. If an indirect kick is awarded to the attacking team inside the defenders’ penalty area, then the indirect free kick will be taken at the edge of the penalty area at the same point on the field (ie. same distance from sideline). 
  • All opposing players must immediately retreat to at least 5 yds for all free kicks.  
  • Free kicks will be taken from where the foul occurred. Player wall will be lined up 5 yards from foul. Opposing players must be at least 1 yard from the wall if more than 3 players form the wall. 
  • If a goalkeeper handles the ball or carries the ball outside their area, an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team. 
  • Slide tackling is prohibited and will result in an indirect free kick to the opposing team from the location of the foul, except if it occurs inside the box, in which this case it results in a penalty kick. A slide tackle will result in a mandatory yellow card being issued to the offending player, and a red card may be issued if the slide tackle is considered serious foul play, on the sole opinion of the referee.  

 

Note 1 : A slide tackle is defined as a tackle, or attempted tackle, that occurs with either one or both of the tackling players legs below the hip being grounded during any attempt to play the ball or not play the ball, regardless of whether contact is or is not made with the ball and/or player in possession.  

 

Note 2: A lunge or the leg being extended by a tackling player with both feet on the ground toward the ball while it is in possession of another player does not constitute a slide tackle, regardless of if the extended foot is moving along the playing surface. 

  • Any player given a yellow card will be able to remain in the game. No substitution is necessary for the player that received the yellow card. 
  • A player receiving a red card (direct red card or 2nd yellow caution) will be ejected from the game, may not be substituted and that team will play short for the remainder of the game. 
  • Any player that receives two yellows or one red card in one game will be out for the reminder of that evening's games.  
  • Foul language and/or verbal abuse and/or taunting aimed at the referee and/or another player will result in a red card. 

 

Penalty Kicks: 

 

  • For 9v9 games, penalty kicks are taken from the top of the box. 
  • For 7v7 games, penalty kicks are taken from the penalty kick spot. 

 

General Rules:  

 

  • A throw-in will be taken by the opposing team if the ball goes out of play along the sideline. If the ball fails to enter the field of play before touching the ground, then the throw will be awarded to the opposing team from the same location.  
  • The ball must be stationary during all restarts, corners, goal kicks penalties, and free kicks. The ball is in play when it is touched and moves.  
  • Goals may only be scored from inside the opposing team’s half.  
  • A goal can be scored directly from a corner.  
  • A goal may not be scored from a throw-in. A goal cannot be scored directly from a goal kick.  
  • When taking corner kicks, corner flags may not be moved.  
  • If the ball hits the ceiling lights or ceiling netting over the field of play, the possession is awarded to the opposite team who kicked the ball “out of bounds.” They will be handed a drop ball directly under the point of contact. If the ball hits the ceiling outside the field of play, a throw-in, corner or goal kick will be taken as applicable.  

  • Handball in soccer is a foul where a player intentionally touches the ball with their hand or arm, between the tips of their fingers and the bottom of their shoulder. Touching the ball with the shoulder is not a handball and unintentional contact between the ball and hand is not handball. 

 

Substitutions: 

 

  • Unlimited subs may be used during all games. Teams can sub on the fly. The exiting player must exit the field without hindering play or making an attempt at the ball.  
  • If interference occurs, the opposing team will be awarded an indirect free kick at the spot of the infraction. 

 

Goalies:  

 

  • Goalie must be in a different color than both teams.  
  • Punting or drop-kicking the ball is not allowed in any league. First will be a warning. Second offense will be an indirect free kick awarded to the opposing team from the point at which the punt was made. 
  • From the time the goalies gather possession of the ball, they have 6 seconds to distribute the ball. 

 

Warm up: 

  • Teams are able to warm up in between fields. If your game is after a team’s practice, you may not enter the field until 10-miuntes before your game starts or only warmup in areas that are permitted by TBK Bank Sports Complex staff. 

 

Weather: 

  • If the weather does not allow games to be played, an e-mail will be sent to captains by 5:00pm.  If a team is unable to make it to a game due to weather, they are asked to inform TBKBSC STAFF by 4:00pm.

The Facility: 

 

No outside food is allowed in TBK Facility. A player's WATER, AND SPORTS DRINKS only, are permitted. Teams are responsible for keeping their area tidy and garbage free when leaving.  

 

Spectators: 

  • Spectators may sit on bleachers or in designated spectator areas, and depending on the size of a field, spectators may sit along the sides of the fields. 
  • Spectators are not allowed on team benches or in the designated team areas. Spectators are asked to follow all TBK Bank Sports Complex Rules and TBK Bank Sports Complex Code of Conduct. If a spectator does not follow TBK Bank Sports Complex Rules or TBK Bank Sports Complex Code of Conduct spectators could be asked to leave the game by referees or TBK Bank Sports Complex Staff.  
  • Spectators should remain off all playing fields even when fields are not being used for a game. TBK Bank Sports Complex asks that all children stay with parents during games and do not play on unused fields.  
  • Please do not bring food on the field.
